If anyone ever makes the claim that they don't focus on Money ALL the time...
by HiddenPimo ini saw this mentioned on reddit but no link - i found the article form this weeks bible study..... in the “congregation bible study” part of the meeting this week there was a part that said and i quote: “only jehovah god and his son can receive someone into the heavenly kingdom or the paradise on earth under that kingdom.
we should diligently cultivate friendship with them by using what material riches we have in supporting kingdom interests”.

I finally did it
by paradiseseeker init's done.. during the last month i've been talking with my closest friends about leaving the org and yesterday i finally talked with my parents.. it's been almost 5 months after i said that i would do it, but i think that this extra time has been beneficial.
i've said several times that i would opt for sending a resignation letter, but after talking to my best friends some of them suggested me becoming inactive and blocking my congregation's elders.
i've changed my mind and i will do that because the people that i care the most now know what's going on so they won't be worrying about me not attending the meetings.

Good for you for not making a hasty decision even though you've wanted out for some time now. Don't be surprised if once the newness of this has worn off a bit, you might feel a bit uncertain at times. The best thing for that is to review the information you have found that proves that the key teachings of the Watchtower are not true and therefore they are not the one true religion as they claim to be.
This does not mean that some of the values you learned as a JW (honesty, morality, protecting ones health etc) aren't still useful. Remember, JW's love to make themselves feel good by comparing themselves to the worst examples out there. Don't make the mistake of throwing the baby out with the bathwater as many former JW's have done because of their skewed view of what it means to be a non JW/ Worldly. Just because you aren't a JW anymore, doesn't mean your life has to become a the train wreck they claim it will be, without them.

"The perception of the community was that it was a very inward facing complex"
They got that right....keep out....you are all doomed and we want no part of you (unless you have something we need...then we'll be very charming and cordial )

The infamous WT article "Why Has God Been So Patient?"
by days of future passed ini went to my sister's house because she was cleaning out the garage and she thought i must have tons of stuff left there.
i didn't but there was a box of unplaced mags in one.
i pulled out one when i got home and it was this one.. i'm sure that if i had read it when it came out, i would have felt that the wt had feelings of sadness over these children.

I always loved how in these articles, they'd invariably quote 2 Peter 3:10
Jehovah is not slow respecting His promises as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.
Easy to say when you've got a full belly and are living in a multimillion dollar facility with every comfort you could possibly need. If they truly believed the end of mankind suffering would come once the word/ message was spread globally they'd spend their money on television advertising or informercials, throughout the world rather than standing silently next to carts in bus stations being ignored by busy passers by. Instead, they spend it on luxurious accommodations, new projects to keep themselves busy, oh.... and law suits.

Confession Time - Music You're Embarrassed to Admit Listening To
by Simon inadmit it, we all have things that we reel off when people ask what our favourite music is, just the same as if people ask what our favourite movies are.
we're meant to say "citizen kane" and "casablanca" and not "battleship" or "pacific rim" but we know what we're going to watch if they are ever on tv at the same time (and which ones we've never actually seen).. so how about some confession time?
what do you listen to when no one else is in the house?.

What is wrong with Hollyweird?
by LoveUniHateExams inso, the trailer for the new batwoman series was released a few days ago.. proof positive that hollywood, cw network and other movie/tv producers live in their own bubble and are continuing to push their sjw agenda.. the trailer itself has unbelievable levels of cringe at times.. batwoman happens to be a woman (if you hadn't already guessed) and an out and proud lesbian.
of course, there's nothing wrong with any of this, it just feels so forced.
within a few seconds of the trailer you get some girl-on girl action, just to hammer home the sexuality thing.

Hollywood's version of "empowering women" is to stick a hot curvy one in a tight costume, usually with plenty of kinky overtones (leather, short skirt, bodice, long boots) and make sure she has great eye makeup and lipstick which is put to good use when pouting.
And more often than not, they have the women take on all the same stereotypical bad boy attributes that they claim to despise in men. Apparently women can't be brave heroic and strong unless they are tough hate filled lesbians who are not only fighting crime, but who are out to get revenge on men in general.

Watkins is going to have it rough in Prison....I hear even among hardened criminals, a child molester is the worst of the worst.
It makes you wonder what effect this will have on the congregation...will people be leaving in droves. How they explain away the fact that the meetings went on as usual, new members were being baptized yet Jehovah didn't bring this mans wrongdoing to light all these decades. It as only when the victims were old enough to speak for themselves, that this guy was stopped. Why bother praying for Jehovah's help and direction at all?

It looks nice but why the sudden need for yet another Bible? What I'm seeing is another product that they can sell to their 8 million built in JW customers.

What would happen if Jepthas daughter disobeyed and got married anyway?
by nowawake14 inwould jehovah kill her?
or would she be shunned by her religion as a whole?
say anything you would think of..

Pete Zahut, can I assume you are a man? Then, I can understand why it doesn't matter to you. Women might not view it the same way. It is a reminder to jw women how low they are in the hierarchy in the WTS. Probably lower than a dog.
Yes I'm a man and believe it or not, it does matter to me what happens to women. Lot's of men (the majority) do care very much but typically, just as it is in many areas of life, one only hears about those who are doing the wrong thing. Men(especially white men) are the last societal group left where it's OK to stereotype them unfairly based on the actions of the few.
In re-reading my comment, I suppose I could have been more clear. My intent was to sarcastically point out the irony that in the Bible, even when they have a significant part in many of the noteworthy accounts, women are so lowly that they often aren't even mentioned by name ie: Jeptha's daughter, Lot's Wife and Daughters.

I would think no Jewish man would have married her knowing of her father's vow to God.
Jeptha's daughter didn't even get her name mentioned in the story so why should anyone wonder how things went for her...she was only a woman ?
I wonder how things went for lot's daughters in that regard. Neither were mentioned by name but both endured the trauma of seeing their own mother smitten before their own eyes. Both were unmarried and intentionally had children by their own father. Even Jerry Springer would think twice about discussing that situation.
